‘The Odyssey’ Effect Sends Troy Back Into Streaming Top 10 as Obsession Debuts at No. 1

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey is already influencing what American audiences are watching, according to JustWatch’s July 2026 streaming charts.

The new monthly rankings show that interest surrounding Nolan’s adaptation of the ancient Greek epic helped propel Troyinto the Top 10 most-popular movies on streaming in the United States. The 2004 historical drama, starring Brad Pitt as Achilles, follows the legendary conflict between Troy and the Greek kingdoms.

The renewed attention suggests audiences are revisiting mythology-inspired films ahead of the release of The Odyssey. Nolan’s highly anticipated project is based on Homer’s epic poem chronicling Odysseus’ dangerous journey home following the Trojan War.

While Troy benefited from the so-called “Odyssey effect,” Obsession claimed the No. 1 position on JustWatch’s movie chart. The film debuted at the top after becoming available to streaming audiences following its theatrical run.

Apple TV also recorded a strong month in the television category, placing four original series in the U.S. Top 10. Silo, Widow’s Bay, Lucky and Cape Fear all appeared in the rankings, demonstrating the platform’s continued presence among the most-watched and most-searched streaming programs.

Despite Apple TV’s strong showing, HBO’s House of the Dragon remained the overall No. 1 television series for July. The Game of Thrones prequel continues to attract audiences with its story of political rivalries, royal succession and civil war within House Targaryen.

Classic movies also performed well on free ad-supported streaming platforms. Troy led JustWatch’s free-streaming rankings, finishing ahead of Off Campus and Pacific Rim.

Several established catalog titles also reached the Top 10, including James Cameron’s Titanic and the classic courtroom drama To Kill a Mockingbird. Their inclusion highlights the continued popularity of recognizable older films on free streaming services, where viewers can watch content without a paid subscription in exchange for advertisements.

JustWatch’s July report includes complete Top 10 rankings for movies, television series, and free ad-supported streaming titles in the United States. The company also released an August preview highlighting additional movies and programs expected to arrive across major streaming services.
