With this summer’s World Cup now in the rearview mirror, American streaming audiences are still craving sports—but soccer films are not leading the way.
New streaming data from JustWatch shows that comedies centered on unconventional sports currently occupy the top spots in its U.S. sports-movie ranking. Pickleball comedy The Dink leads the chart, followed by the arm-wrestling film Golden Arm and the table-tennis movie Marty Supreme.
Starring Jake Johnson, Apple TV’s The Dink combines sports and comedy in a story built around one of America’s fastest-growing recreational activities. Its first-place ranking suggests viewers are increasingly interested in lighthearted stories that explore sports outside the traditional major leagues.
The popularity of Golden Arm reinforces that trend. The comedy follows a female truck driver who enters the competitive world of arm wrestling, bringing another unconventional sport into the spotlight.
Despite the success of these novelty-sport titles, baseball remains America’s dominant on-screen pastime. Four baseball movies appear in JustWatch’s Top 10: The Sandlot, Moneyball, Field of Dreams and A League of Their Own.
The rankings show that audiences continue to revisit baseball stories from different eras and genres. The Sandlot offers a nostalgic coming-of-age story, while Moneyball explores the use of analytics to build a competitive team. Field of Dreams remains a sentimental favorite, and A League of Their Own highlights the women who played professional baseball during World War II.
Motorsports also secured a strong presence on the chart. F1, starring Brad Pitt, and Ford v Ferrari both ranked among the most-watched sports movies, reflecting continued interest in high-speed racing stories.
Traditional sports classics have also maintained their appeal. Boxing drama Rocky remains among the notable films attracting U.S. viewers decades after its original release.
Perhaps the most surprising finding is the absence of soccer movies. Even immediately following the World Cup, no soccer film appeared in the Top 10. Instead, American viewers turned toward baseball, motorsports and comedies about less conventional competitions.
According to JustWatch’s data, the current rankings reveal an audience balancing nostalgia with curiosity. Established favorites such as Rocky, Moneyball and Field of Dreams remain popular, but newer titles centered on pickleball, arm wrestling and table tennis are expanding what a successful sports movie can look like.
The results suggest that while major sporting events may briefly dominate television screens, audiences searching for movies are often drawn to personality-driven stories, humor and sports they do not regularly see portrayed in Hollywood.
The rankings are based on U.S. streaming activity measured by JustWatch.
