The Michelle Obama Experience With Shahira McGinty

By Iesha Rowan

Shahira McGinty is a Dance studio owner and Leader of the spectacular United Dance Team. They are based out of Buckeye, Arizona. This exciting young team of dancers pops up at many events across the city of Phoenix showcasing their abilities for crowds to see. I had a chance to sit down with Shahira during a recording of Habari lIve and we spoke about the prospects of her taking a trip to see Michelle Obama. I promised I would write an article about her experience.
Meeting Shahira was a joy such a glowing soul taking her time to help kids learn to dance. She’s an inspiration to the youth and we wish nothing but the best for her. Here she speaks about her experience at the YouTube Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
We asked Shahira to go over how she felt during the trip.
Shahira – “It all starts with feeling grateful while enjoying different things along the way. You can never be too sure what blessing will come your way. I had the opportunity to meet a fabulous woman at an All-Women Retreat In Buckeye Arizona, Her name is Yolanda Robinson. She Is an amazing woman who really cares for others’ well-being.
From the first time I met her, she has encouraged me to always be great and to stay strong, to never dim my light for anyone or anything. She invited me to accompany her on a trip to L.A to experience the Michelle Obama Book tour. What an astonishing encounter the whole event was. It was so wonderful and beyond astounding. I gained so much confidence and knowledge during my trip. Just seeing Michelle Obama solidified that I’m not alone and everyone has a struggle in life at one point. The experience taught me to never ever let the world or anyone take me low cause I can always be great every day.
Additionally, I gained a compelling message always to carry my light high and never low. As a young black woman to be able to see two marvelous women that are celebrities and very powerful really touched me so hard I was crying and to be honest with you, I was all over the place.”
Michelle Obama closed out the Tour for her newly released book The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times. We are happy Shahira had a great time during this experience. Below is more information on the tour and where you can buy the book.

On November 15th, the same day as the tour kick-off, Michelle Obama will globally release her second book, The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times. The book shares practical wisdom and powerful strategies for staying hopeful and balanced in today’s highly uncertain world.

The Light We Carry offers readers a series of fresh stories and insightful reflections on change, challenge, and power, including her belief that when we light up for others, we can illuminate the richness and potential of the world around us, discovering deeper truths and new pathways for progress.
