Phoenix Police Arrest Two in Burglary of Former MLB Player’s Storage Locker

Phoenix Police arrested two men in connection with the burglary of a former MLB player’s storage locker. Authorities say information from the public and local businesses helped detectives identify the suspects and recover footwear, clothing and electronics.

PHOENIX — Phoenix Police announced on October 9 that detectives arrested two men in connection with the burglary of a storage locker belonging to a former Major League Baseball player near 24th Street and Campbell Avenue.

Police identified the suspects as Daniel Jacob Thompson, 48, and Michael Charles Hummel, 30. The arrests followed an October 8 social media request asking the public to help identify two suspects in the case.

According to the department, detectives subsequently learned that the suspects had attempted to sell a pair of shoes stolen from the storage locker. Further investigation led officers to identify and arrest Thompson and Hummel.

Detectives also obtained a search warrant and recovered several items, including footwear, clothing bearing the victim’s name and electronics, police said.

The department credited community members and local businesses with providing information that helped advance the investigation.

The update did not identify the former MLB player, specify the charges against the suspects, or state whether all stolen property had been recovered. The allegations against the two men have not been proven in court.
