Pedestrian dies after being struck by car on West McDowell Road in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A 39-year-old man died Monday, Nov. 2, after a car struck him near North 59th Avenue and West McDowell Road, according to Phoenix police.

Officers responded to the collision in the 5900 block of West McDowell Road at about 6 a.m. Phoenix Fire Department crews took the pedestrian, identified as Michael McKelvey, to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives with the Vehicular Crimes Unit said McKelvey was crossing McDowell Road midblock, outside a crosswalk, when the car struck him. Police said they do not believe impairment was a factor.
