Luxury oceanfront homes of Malibu beach near Los Angeles, California

The Malibu You Don’t Know

Do you truly know Malibu?

When one thinks of Malibu, California images of the ocean, paradise, wealthy individuals, and fancy restaurants come to mind. However, do you really know the other side of Malibu? Beneath this beautiful description lies a darker reality, the antithesis of paradise. Various Americans from other states dream of living in Malibu, but upon investigation, they realize that it’s not just rich people who reside there. Surprisingly, several cars parked near the beach serve as people’s homes.

These individuals had once envisioned a different life in Malibu, only to discover that reality does not align with their dreams. Malibu has a population of 10,429 and used to have a homelessness rate of 66 percent, which has since decreased. This sheds light on the less glamorous side of the city. However, Malibu is not solely characterized by its positives. There are real people who suffer and do not have a place to sleep. According to the documentary “Malibu you don’t know” many homeless have set up camps in the mountains and live there. “I’ve been living here for many years, and even though I am homeless in Malibu when I beg here, I can easily earn $400 a day,” said Dough. Despite the existence of this other side, Malibu continues to be a dream destination for tourists and those who seek to fulfill their American Dream.
