Soleil Takes Out the Emotional Trash on Empowering New Single “Rubbish”

The Miami-based singer-songwriter turns heartbreak into self-respect on a blues- and funk-infused R&B anthem accompanied by a cinematic new video.

Soleil is leaving empty promises at the curb on her new single, “Rubbish,” an empowering breakup anthem rooted in reclamation, self-love, and knowing when it is time to walk away.

Following last month’s soulful release “Heart Strings,” the singer-songwriter, DJ, and vocal producer returns with another emotionally driven record. While the two songs share a silky R&B foundation, “Rubbish” pushes further into blues and funk, creating a retro-leaning soundscape for Soleil’s rich, impassioned vocals.

At its core, “Rubbish” captures the moment when someone finally recognizes that emotional neglect, mixed signals, and broken promises should never be mistaken for love.

“The song is about waking up to the lies that we convince ourselves to believe,” Soleil explained. “What begins as a story of unconditional love and loyalty unravels into the realization that empty promises, mixed signals, and emotional neglect were never love at all.”

The song’s sharp, occasionally tongue-in-cheek lyrics balance vulnerability with confidence. Rather than remaining trapped in heartbreak, Soleil transforms disappointment into a declaration of independence.

“‘Rubbish’ captures the moment that self-doubt transforms into self-respect,” she continued. “It is about taking out the emotional trash, reclaiming your voice and refusing to carry someone else’s nonsense any longer.”

A Cinematic Visual Filled With Confidence

The accompanying “Rubbish” music video extends the song’s message through a stylish, golden-hued visual directed by filmmaker Riccardo Solorzano.

The video features Soleil performing on set while also appearing across television screens, creating imagery that complements the record’s cinematic tone and retro-soul character. Its warm color palette and polished staging project confidence, reinforcing the song’s transition from emotional uncertainty to personal freedom.

A Collaborative Soul and Funk Production

Soleil co-wrote “Rubbish” with producer Dinni Bartholomew. The recording also features Josh Walton on bass and synth pad, Juan Santiago on keys, Moises Lenare on drums, and Richard Boisrond on guitar. Paolo Angulo mixed and mastered the track.

Together, the musicians give “Rubbish” a full-bodied instrumental foundation that draws from soul, blues, and funk without losing its contemporary R&B edge. The live instrumentation supplies the song with energy and warmth while allowing Soleil’s voice and message to remain at the center.

From New York to Miami

Originally from New York and now based in Miami, Soleil has built her artistry around soulful storytelling and genre-blending performances. Her musical influences stretch across R&B, blues, soul, EDM, disco house, deep house, Amapiano, Afrobeats, baile funk, and pop.
