Most people think obesity is simply caused by people being gluttonous and lazy, or in the case of children, that the parents are abusing their child. But there was a study that suggests that indoor pollution could be increasing obesity rates in China.
So, what are the possible obesogenic chemicals in our homes? Surprisingly it was found that cooking oil fumes could be the culprit. Cooking oil fumes were found to increase MDA and SOD which are biomarkers that suggest oxidative damage if they are high. Heating, smoking, and even forms of low-quality plastic home decorations can also cause problems with the body which could increase the risk of obesity.
New research like this really brings home the fact that the modern world a major factor of the rise of obesity, obesity is not a character flaw, it should be treated like a disease.
