PHOENIX — A 35-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene near 31st Drive and Northern Avenue on October 8, according to Phoenix Police.
Police officers and Phoenix Fire personnel responded shortly before 7 p.m. to reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 3100 block of West Northern Avenue.
First responders found the man seriously injured and transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said the driver left before officers arrived.
Detectives with the Phoenix Police Vehicular Crimes Unit took over the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate the man was crossing Northern Avenue mid-block, outside a crosswalk, when the vehicle struck him, police said. The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation.
Authorities did not provide a description of the vehicle. The victim’s name was not included in the department’s release.
