A five-year-old boy was shot dead by his six-year-old brother at their Pennsylvania home while they were playing in a bedroom near an unsecured gun.
Connor Wolfe, five, was left unsupervised in the bedroom with his older brother and another child when he was shot at his Penn Hills home on Monday night.
The incident is being investigated by local police and Allegheny County homicide detectives.
‘The initial investigation shows there were children playing in a back bedroom when one of the children was shot,’ Lt. Venerando Costa of the Allegheny County Police Department told KDKA.
‘We’re still working to figure out how that occurred, but the child was pronounced deceased at a hospital.’
‘It’s always hard when its children, just are. They’re innocent so that’s why it’s always tough,’ he added.
The Allegheny County Police Department also said they spoke with the parents but there is currently no charges being filed as of yet.
The children’s neighbors have been left heartbroken by the tragic incident.
‘I’m just so sad this happened,’ Shari Robinson told KDKA. ‘Guns got to be locked up because kids don’t know they think they are toys, and they have to be locked up because this is what happens.’
‘They are nice kids, very nice kids, always speaking, very manner-able, her husband Alfred Robinson added. ‘I just can’t believe it. It’s just horrible, it’s hard.’
The couple also said they are praying and thinking of the family.
‘Just praying for the family, hope they make it through,’ they said.
The Penn Hills Police Department and School District are also offering emotional support in response to the accident.
‘Penn Hills School District confirms the passing of our kindergarten student Connor Wolfe yesterday,’ the district said in a statement.
‘We ask all members of our PH community to remember Connor and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
‘Counselors and Social Workers will remain accessible for students and staff who need extra support during this very difficult time.’
This incident comes after a four-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the face in East Liberty on Monday morning.
The young boy was taken to the Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
He had been identified as Ajani Lane and a guardian was discovered to have been present in the home at the time of the shooting.
No criminal charges have been filed in this case either as of yet.
