USC named Team of the Week after upsetting No. 2 Ohio State

USC earned its fifth FWAA Team of the Week honor after upsetting No. 2 Ohio State 30–18. Freshman Trent Mosley opened the scoring with a 69-yard touchdown catch, and the Trojans kept the Buckeyes out of the end zone until 2:12 remained.

LOS ANGELES — USC scored on its second offensive play and kept No. 2 Ohio State out of the end zone until the final minutes of a 30–18 upset Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The win earned the Trojans the Pop-Tarts Bowl Crazy Good Team of the Week award, announced Nov. 2 by the Football Writers Association of America.

Freshman receiver Trent Mosley opened the scoring with a 69-yard touchdown catch from Jayden Maiava. Mosley finished with five catches for 101 yards and added a 44-yard punt return that helped set up Waymond Jordan’s nine-yard touchdown run. Maiava completed 15 of 22 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown without an interception.

USC led 20–9 at halftime and stretched its lead to 27–9 in the third quarter. Freshman tight end Mark Bowman hurdled a defender and broke multiple tackles on a 70-yard reception that set up King Miller’s one-yard touchdown run. Ohio State scored its first touchdown with 2:12 remaining.

The Trojans scored more points than any of Ohio State’s previous 31 opponents, according to the FWAA. It was USC’s first home win over an Associated Press top-five opponent since 2015 and its first victory over a top-12 team under head coach Lincoln Riley.

The award was USC’s fifth and its first since a 20–17 win over No. 5 Stanford in 2013. The Trojans also earned the honor after beating Ohio State in 2008.

USC improved to 7–2 overall and 4–2 in Big Ten play. Ohio State fell to 6–2 overall and 4–1 in the conference. The Trojans have an open weekend before visiting Indiana on Nov. 14. USC Athletics
