PHOENIX — The City of Phoenix Human Services Department has launched a SNAP navigation program to help residents apply for food assistance, complete renewals, and understand work requirements.
The initiative provides individual support intended to reduce paperwork errors and prevent avoidable benefit loss. Staff can help residents prepare and submit information to the Arizona Department of Economic Security, which administers the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in Arizona.
Phoenix does not determine SNAP eligibility, approve applications, or renew benefits. The city’s role is to help residents understand the process and prepare their submissions.
What Support Is Available?
Through the Phoenix SNAP Navigation program, residents can receive:
- One-on-one assistance with understanding, completing, and submitting applications and renewals.
- Guidance on meeting applicable work requirements.
- Support after submitting an application.
Mayor Kate Gallego said the initiative is intended to help families facing a complicated application process and rising food costs.
“Navigating the SNAP application process can be complicated, and this program ensures Phoenix families have the support they need,” Gallego said in the city’s announcement.
How to Get Help
Residents can schedule an appointment through phoenix.gov/SNAPNAV. Walk-in assistance is also available during normal business hours at the city’s Family Services Centers.
Phoenix will also offer community clinics. The city announced a clinic for Wednesday, October 28, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Emmett McLoughlin C.T.E.C. Residents should check the program website for additional clinic dates and details.
What Residents Should Bring
To help staff prepare an application or renewal packet, residents are encouraged to bring any available supporting documents, including:
- Identification and proof of address.
- Income information for all household members.
- Social Security numbers.
- Bank statements.
- Documentation of volunteer hours or participation in federal workforce programs, when applicable.
- DES notices about renewals, updates, or requests for information.
The city encourages residents to bring the documents they have available so staff can help them understand what may be needed.
“Our goal is to make the SNAP process easier, clearer, and less stressful,” Human Services Director Jacqueline Edwards said.
Where to Find More Information
Residents can learn about appointments, walk-in assistance, and upcoming clinics on the Phoenix SNAP Navigation website.
Applications can also be submitted through Health-e-Arizona Plus, Arizona’s official benefits application portal. Additional information is available through the DES Nutrition Assistance program.
