UAB senior kicker Jonah Delange earned recognition among the Lou Groza Award’s Stars of the Week after making four field goals in the Blazers’ 33–14 victory over Samford.

It was Delange’s second four-field-goal game of the season. The Mobile, Alabama native connected from 46, 44, 26 and 23 yards, continuing a productive start that has placed him among the nation’s leading kickers.

Louisiana’s Tony Sterner and NC State’s Kanoah Vinesett also received weekly recognition following decisive performances in close victories.

Delange Reaches Career Milestone

Delange improved to 12-for-13 on field goals through five games, with his 12 successful kicks tied for the Football Bowl Subdivision lead at the time of the announcement.

He had already surpassed his total number of made field goals from the previous season.

His opening field goal against Samford marked the 40th of his UAB career, moving him into sixth place in the program’s record book. Delange reached that milestone in less than two and a half seasons.

His four field goals accounted for 12 points as UAB secured a 19-point victory.

Sterner Delivers Louisiana’s Last-Second Winner

Sterner made a 37-yard field goal as time expired to lift Louisiana to a 23–20 win over Arkansas State.

The senior from Kingwood, Texas, connected on three second-half field goals. His first, from 38 yards, tied the game at 10. A subsequent 25-yarder brought Louisiana even at 20–20, setting up his winning kick just minutes later.

According to the Lou Groza announcement, Sterner’s final attempt was the only true game-winning field goal in FBS that week.

Through the games covered by the recognition, Sterner remained perfect, making all seven field-goal attempts and all 17 extra-point attempts.

Vinesett Gives NC State the Final Lead

Vinesett made three field goals in NC State’s 31–28 victory over Louisville, including the fourth-quarter kick that ultimately decided the game.

The senior from Rock Hill, South Carolina, opened the scoring from 46 yards and closed the first half with a 29-yard field goal.

With approximately five and a half minutes remaining, his 28-yard field goal put the Wolfpack ahead for good and supplied the game’s final points.

Vinesett had made a field goal in every game that season and remained flawless at the time of the announcement, converting seven of seven field goals and all 21 extra-point attempts.

About the Lou Groza Award

The Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award honors college football’s top place-kicker and recognizes standout performances through its weekly Stars of the Week selections.

The award is named for Lou “The Toe” Groza, the Pro Football Hall of Famer who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza excelled as both an offensive lineman and kicker, helping establish the importance of a dedicated kicking role in professional football.

Produced by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission, the Lou Groza Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association.

This week’s honorees demonstrated the position’s impact in different ways: Delange supplied consistent scoring, Sterner delivered a last-second victory, and Vinesett provided the points that held up as NC State’s winning margin.
