
Kent County, the hometown of former President Gerald Ford, has nurtured elite Republican figures for decades. However, its status as a GOP stronghold has been eroding, in part because of demographic shifts. Between the 2010 and 2020 censuses, the county saw a 10 percent increase in its Hispanic population.
