A theatrical sequel sent audiences back to the original Practical Magic, while Nathan Fielder’s new Elizabeth Holmes documentary sparked renewed interest across several earlier projects.
Sequels, returning seasons, and one unusual documentary trailer are driving this week’s biggest movements on the JustWatch Streaming Charts.
The original Practical Magic has reclaimed the No. 1 movie position following the theatrical debut of its long-awaited sequel, while Chad Powers has returned to the top of the television chart after premiering its second season on Hulu.
Nathan Fielder is also experiencing a broader streaming surge. The trailer for his upcoming Elizabeth Holmes documentary sent viewers searching for several related titles, with The Dropout and The Rehearsal each climbing nearly 900 positions.
‘Practical Magic’ Returns to No. 1
Nearly three decades after its original release, Practical Magic is once again the most popular movie on the JustWatch chart.
The 1998 fantasy romance stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as Sally and Gillian Owens, sisters born into a family of witches whose romantic relationships are threatened by a longstanding curse.
Interest in the original surged after Practical Magic 2 opened in theaters on September 11. The sequel reunites Bullock and Kidman and continues the Owens family story more than 25 years later.
The new film opened at No. 1 at the domestic box office, and that theatrical attention appears to have carried over to streaming. Viewers who wanted to revisit the original—or experience it for the first time—helped push the 1998 movie back to the top.
The chart movement demonstrates how a sequel can create new value for an older catalog title. Rather than drawing attention away from the original, the theatrical release has introduced it to another wave of viewers.
‘Chad Powers’ Scores Another No. 1
Chad Powers has returned to the top of JustWatch’s television rankings following the launch of its second season.
The Hulu comedy stars Glen Powell as Russ Holliday, a disgraced former football player who adopts a fake identity and attempts to rebuild his career by joining a struggling college team.
Season 2 premiered on September 3 with six new episodes, continuing the story after Russ’ deception began to unravel.
The renewed interest lifted the series back to No. 1 on JustWatch’s TV chart. In the United States, Chad Powers is available through Hulu.
Its comeback reflects the value of returning seasons in the streaming market. New episodes can attract existing fans while encouraging other viewers to begin with the show’s first season.
Nathan Fielder Trailer Creates a Streaming Ripple
The most dramatic chart movement came from titles connected to Nathan Fielder and Elizabeth Holmes.
Fielder recently revealed the trailer for You Can See Everything, a documentary about the convicted Theranos founder that he co-directed with filmmaker Lance Oppenheim. The project was reportedly filmed in secret over three years and examines Holmes during the period before she began serving her prison sentence.
The trailer’s release generated interest well beyond the upcoming documentary.
The Dropout, Hulu’s dramatized series about the rise and collapse of Theranos, climbed 893 positions on the JustWatch Streaming Charts. Amanda Seyfried stars as Holmes in the limited series.
Fielder’s HBO docu-comedy The Rehearsal experienced an even larger increase, jumping 908 places.
The two surges appear to reflect different forms of audience curiosity. Some viewers sought additional background about Holmes and Theranos, while others returned to Fielder’s earlier work to better understand the unconventional filmmaker behind the new documentary.
‘Nathan for You’ Breaks Into Free-Streaming Top 10
Fielder’s cult comedy Nathan for You also benefited from the attention.
The series entered JustWatch’s free-to-stream Top 10 as viewers revisited Fielder’s earlier experiment in blending comedy, business advice and elaborately constructed social situations.
Nathan for You follows Fielder as he offers increasingly bizarre marketing plans to real small-business owners. What begins as a parody of business-makeover television frequently develops into an examination of human behavior, loneliness and performance.
According to JustWatch, the series is currently available through services including Pluto TV, Hoopla, and Paramount+.
Its return to the Top 10 shows how one timely news event can lift an artist’s entire body of work. Interest in Fielder’s documentary did not remain limited to the new project; it traveled backward through his catalog and outward to other productions connected to its subject.
What the JustWatch Charts Measure
JustWatch rankings are based on activity within the company’s streaming guide rather than viewing totals supplied by individual platforms.
The company says its daily charts incorporate user actions such as selecting a streaming offer, adding a title to a watchlist, and marking a movie or series as seen. JustWatch reports that its data draws from approximately 1.7 million movie and television users each day.
That means the rankings primarily measure audience interest and viewing intent, not the number of complete streams.
This week’s results show how strongly outside events can influence that intent. A theatrical sequel revived a 1998 favorite, a new season returned a Hulu comedy to No. 1, and one documentary trailer created a chain reaction across multiple streaming platforms.
