PHOENIX, AZ — November 4, 2026 — Phoenix Police detectives have arrested three suspects, including an 18-year-old man and two juveniles, in connection with a series of burglaries at the former Echo Canyon School campus near 4300 North 62nd Street. Authorities say the crimes resulted in more than $283,000 in stolen equipment and property damage.
The investigation uncovered a connection to a social media-driven trend known as “urban exploration,” in which individuals enter vacant or abandoned buildings and sometimes share their activities online.
Former School Campus Targeted in Multiple Burglaries
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the investigation began after four individuals allegedly forced their way into the former Echo Canyon School campus on October 11, 2026.
Although the school is no longer operating, the property remains in use for community events and equipment storage by the Scottsdale Unified School District.
Investigators determined that the suspects unlawfully entered multiple buildings and rooms across the campus over several days, stealing computer equipment and causing extensive property damage.
The Scottsdale Unified School District reported approximately:
- $230,000 in stolen or damaged computer hardware.
- $51,000 in additional property damage.
- More than $283,000 in total losses, according to the police department’s reported overall estimate.
Detectives with the Phoenix Police Department’s Property Crimes Bureau processed the extensive crime scene and began developing leads to identify those involved.
Social Media Trend Linked to Burglaries
During the investigation, detectives discovered that the crimes were connected to a social media trend commonly referred to as “urban exploration.”
The activity typically involves individuals exploring vacant, abandoned, or otherwise unused properties, sometimes documenting their visits through videos and photographs posted online.
While urban exploration does not necessarily involve theft or destruction, police said the activity at the former Echo Canyon School escalated into multiple felony burglaries and criminal damage offenses.
Investigators have not disclosed which social media platforms were involved or whether online videos were used as evidence to identify the suspects.
Search Warrants Lead to Multiple Arrests
On October 30, 2026, Phoenix Police executed a search warrant at a residence in north Scottsdale.
During the operation, officers detained two suspects and recovered evidence allegedly connected to the burglaries.
Police identified one of the suspects as Blake Eldredge, 18, who investigators said admitted during an interview to participating in the crimes.
According to detectives, Eldredge also provided information that helped investigators identify another suspect and locate additional stolen property.
A third suspect was subsequently arrested in Mesa. Investigators executed a second search warrant, recovering further evidence associated with the case.
Adult Suspect Booked, Juvenile Cases Referred for Review
Eldredge was booked into jail on multiple felony charges.
Suspect information provided by Phoenix Police:
- Blake Eldredge, 18: Arrested and booked into jail.
- 16-year-old male: Identified as a juvenile suspect.
- 16-year-old male: Identified as a juvenile suspect.
- Fourth suspect: Identity remains unknown.
Police said the juvenile suspects were released to their parents, with charges submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review.
The department has not specified the individual felony counts against Eldredge or provided additional information about the unidentified fourth suspect.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
Investigation Highlights School Property Security Concerns
The burglaries caused substantial financial losses involving computer equipment and facilities belonging to the Scottsdale Unified School District.
Although the campus was no longer being used for regular classroom instruction, it continued to serve community purposes and house valuable district-owned equipment.
The investigation also highlights the potential consequences of unauthorized entry into vacant or decommissioned properties, particularly when social media activity encourages individuals to access locations without permission.
Phoenix Police credited cooperation among investigators, other law enforcement agencies, and school officials with helping identify suspects and recover stolen property.
Authorities have not disclosed the total value of the recovered equipment or whether all stolen items have been accounted for.
Investigation Status
The case remains significant because of the extent of the reported losses, the involvement of juvenile suspects, and the alleged connection to social media activity.
Additional information may become available as prosecutors review the submitted charges and the criminal proceedings move forward.
Habari News will continue following the investigation and provide updates as additional verified information becomes available.
