DC Studios Set to take Flight in 2025 and Soar in the Years Beyond

After the success seen from MARVEL’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy over the last decade or so and the successful reboot of The Suicide Squad. DC Studios decided to make a change to their future movies and reset what is known as the DCEU (DC Extended Universe.) They started this reset by hiring James Gunn as a co-head of DC films, TV shows, and animation.

In January of 2023, James Gunn finally announced the opening slate of this new universe which would range from projects of all kinds. Still, they would start the rollout of these projects at the end of 2024, when the animated series Creature Commandos started streaming on Max.

However, the real test for DC Studios lies on the road ahead, which just got a little more clear upon recent announcements about future projects.

Starting this July, the first test will arrive as Superman starring, David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Rachel Brosnahan will take flight and be the first DC Studios movie in the new extended universe.

But what lies ahead for this ambitious new attempt at putting DC back on the map? Well, news just broke of the yearly framework DC wants to follow as well as some upcoming projects that should excite fans of the franchise.

Three new animated series’ were announced from DC Studios all covering different stories, the three new series’ are: My Adventures with Green LanternStarfire!, and Superpowers.

My Adventures with Green Lantern will follow a high school student named Jessica Cruz who has a green lantern ring fall into her life.

For the Teen Titan fans out there, Starfire! Looks to be a standalone story of the famous character. The story will follow Starfire after she leaves Tamaran and ventures through space.

The last project is Superpowers which will follow heroes at an alliance school and will focus on some classic heroes like: Flash, Green Lantern, Plastic Man, Aquagirl, and Terra as they learn how to “level up their powers,” from their principal Martian Manhunter.

While none of these projects have an official release date, you can expect them to be released in the upcoming years because DC just announced a very ambitious yearly release schedule. DC Studios plans to release; two live-action films each year, one animated film each year, two live-action series each year, and two animated series for the streaming service Max each year. That would be a total of seven DC Studios projects per year.

The good news doesn’t stop there for DC Studios as the next live-action movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (based on the comic of the same name,) has reached the halfway point in production. The movie is scheduled to release on June 26, 2026.

Whether you enjoy DC or not, the impact these projects will make in the pop culture world is immeasurable and it will be interesting to see if this new universe will soar to new heights or become its own kryptonite.
