Horror led all three of JustWatch’s Halloween-week streaming charts. John Carpenter’s Halloween took No. 1 on the movie chart, Crystal Lake topped the TV rankings, and Jeremy Saulnier’s Green Room led the free streaming chart while placing No. 4 among movies overall.

Halloween leads the movie chart

The original Halloween finished ahead of The Invite at No. 2 and Obsession at No. 3. Carpenter’s 1978 film follows Laurie Strode, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, as masked killer Michael Myers returns to Haddonfield, Illinois, on Halloween night.

Two very different holiday staples rounded out the movie top 10. Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, which introduced Freddy Krueger as a killer who stalks teenagers in their dreams, landed at No. 9. At No. 10 was It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, the animated special in which Linus spends Halloween waiting in a pumpkin patch for the Great Pumpkin to appear.

Crystal Lake takes the top TV spot

Crystal Lake, a prequel series set in the Friday the 13th universe, claimed No. 1 on JustWatch’s TV chart. Phony followed at No. 2, and FROM placed No. 3. The latter follows people trapped in a town they can’t leave, where creatures emerge after dark.

The movie and TV charts put two familiar slasher franchises on top in the same week. Halloween brought Michael Myers back to the movie rankings, while Crystal Lake took viewers back to the setting associated with Jason Voorhees.

Green Room leads free streaming and ranks No. 4 overall

Green Room was the only title in this week’s highlights to lead the free chart and finish in the overall movie top five. Saulnier’s thriller follows a touring punk band that witnesses a killing at a remote venue and barricades itself in the green room. Patrick Stewart plays the leader of the group trying to keep the band from getting out alive.

The free chart also featured Under the Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson as a mysterious woman who picks up men in Scotland, and A Different Man, starring Sebastian Stan as an actor whose life changes after a medical procedure alters his appearance. The lineup included Aftersun, a quieter drama about a woman looking back on a childhood vacation with her father. Browse the free titles on JustWatch TV
