Miami Holds No. 1 as Upsets Shake Up Week 8 FWAA-NFF Super 16 Rankings

Miami holds the top spot for a second straight week as upsets reshape the FWAA-NFF Super 16. BYU falls to No. 8, while Texas, LSU and Wake Forest enter the rankings.

Miami remained atop the FWAA-NFF Super 16 rankings released October 25, while BYU’s first loss and a wave of upsets reshaped the college football poll.

The Hurricanes secured the No. 1 position for a second consecutive week after a commanding victory over Pitt, receiving 49 first-place votes. Ohio State remained No. 2 following an idle week and collected the remaining seven first-place votes.

The biggest change near the top came after previously third-ranked BYU lost 39-31 in double overtime at unranked UCF. The Cougars dropped five positions to No. 8, becoming one of six ranked teams to lose to an unranked opponent Saturday.

Georgia moved into third following an idle week. Indiana climbed to fourth after beating Michigan, while UCLA rounded out the top five following a victory over Michigan State.

Miami, UCLA and seventh-ranked Utah are the poll’s three remaining unbeaten teams.

Texas and LSU Return; Wake Forest Makes Season Debut

Texas returned to the rankings at No. 11 after defeating Ole Miss 34-27. The Rebels fell five spots to No. 13.

LSU also reentered the poll, landing at No. 12 after a decisive victory over Auburn. Wake Forest made its first appearance of the season at No. 15.

Houston, Iowa, and USC dropped out following losses. Texas Tech remained ranked but fell seven places to No. 14 after an upset loss at Cincinnati.

The SEC led all conferences with seven ranked teams. The Big Ten and Big 12 each had three, followed by the ACC with two and the independents with one.
