Texas remains atop the Week 5 FWAA-NFF Super 16 rankings, maintaining its No. 1 position for the fourth consecutive week. Miami moves into the top three, BYU reaches a program milestone, and Florida falls six spots following a decisive loss at Missouri.
The Longhorns received 34 of the poll’s 56 first-place votes, holding the top spot through their bye week. Texas returns to action against Oklahoma in Dallas, where the rivalry matchup will provide another test for the nation’s top-ranked team in the poll.
Miami Passes Notre Dame; Georgia Holds at No. 2
Georgia remains second after a dominant 38-14 home victory over Vanderbilt. The Bulldogs now prepare for the upcoming schedule’s only matchup between Super 16 teams: a road showdown with No. 6 Alabama.
Miami climbs one position to No. 3 after defeating Clemson 41-13 on the road. The Hurricanes move ahead of Notre Dame, which slips to fourth despite earning a 37-26 victory at North Carolina.
Miami is idle next week, while Notre Dame hosts Stanford. Ohio State rounds out the top five ahead of a home game against Maryland.
BYU Makes Super 16 History
BYU rises one spot to No. 8 following a 17-10 victory at TCU. The Cougars have now appeared in the poll’s top 10 for three consecutive weeks, marking the first time the program has accomplished that feat in the history of the FWAA-NFF Super 16.
BYU will host Iowa State on Friday as it looks to build on its recent success.
Ole Miss also moves up one position, reaching No. 10 during a bye week. The Rebels return to action at Vanderbilt.
Florida Tumbles as Missouri and Tennessee Enter
Florida drops from No. 8 to No. 14 after a 45-17 loss at Missouri. The Gators were the only team from the previous week’s top 10 to lose in Week 5.
Florida will look to rebound against South Carolina at home. Missouri enters the rankings at No. 16 and will host Texas A&M.
Tennessee joins the poll at No. 15 ahead of a road game at Arkansas. Iowa and Mississippi State fall out of the rankings after Week 5 losses.
SEC Accounts for Half of the Rankings
The SEC leads all conferences with eight ranked teams. This marks the eighth time in the poll’s history that a conference has placed at least eight teams in the Super 16, with the SEC responsible for all eight instances.
The Big Ten and Big 12 follow with three teams apiece. The ACC and FBS independents each have one representative.
