FENRA Expands His Cinematic Sound With New Single ‘EMERALDS’

Portland-based producer FENRA is continuing his rise in the atmospheric electronic music scene with the release of his latest single, “EMERALDS,” available now via Base Layer Records.

Following the momentum of his 2025 Delusional EP, FENRA once again showcases his signature downtempo sound — blending immersive textures, emotional depth, and cinematic soundscapes into a track that feels both intimate and expansive. The producer, whose real name is B Laws, has steadily built a reputation for creating music that exists beyond traditional dancefloor conventions, drawing listeners into deeply reflective sonic environments.

“EMERALDS” unfolds through fractured percussion, layered granular textures, and soft, distant drums that create a hypnotic atmosphere throughout the track’s two-and-a-half-minute runtime. The song gradually evolves into a powerful climax as swirling synths and UK garage-inspired rhythms collide in an emotionally charged finale.

Fans of artists like Burial, Four Tet, Jon Hopkins, and Bicep will likely find themselves drawn to the meditative and cinematic qualities of the single.

FENRA explained the inspiration behind the release, sharing:

“‘EMERALDS’ started with some chords and vocal fragments that I kept sampling, resampling, and reshaping until it became almost like a living texture underneath the track. I intentionally kept the drums soft and distant because I wanted the song to feel less like a traditional dance record and more like a small atmospheric world you could disappear into.”

The release further solidifies FENRA’s growing presence within the electronic music community. His Delusional EP earned praise from respected outlets including CLASH Magazine, Electronic Groove, and Magnetic Magazine, with critics applauding his ability to merge ambient textures, broken beats, and emotional storytelling into immersive listening experiences.

Raised around art and inspired early on by church hymns he heard with his grandmother, B Laws first taught himself guitar at age 14 before experimenting with synths, vocals, and drums in touring bands across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Those experiences now feed directly into the FENRA project, where cinematic electronica meets deeply personal expression.

“EMERALDS” avoids the commercial tropes often associated with EDM and instead leans into a spacious, mood-driven identity that feels introspective and transportive. The result is a release that highlights FENRA’s evolving artistry while offering listeners a richly layered sonic journey.

Listeners can stream and download “EMERALDS” now and follow FENRA across social platforms for future releases and updates.
