Black Motion Drop Afro House Remix of Karmacoda’s “Time,” Blending Ancestral Rhythm With Modern Dance Energy

South African Afro House icons Black Motion have released a powerful new remix of San Francisco duo Karmacoda’s track “Time,” delivering a rhythmic, emotionally charged rework that is already gaining international attention across electronic music platforms. The remix dropped March 6 via Sola Musa Music and has been praised by outlets including YourEDM, Music In Africa, and SIX AM, while also receiving radio support from Ireland’s RTÉ 2FM on Alternative with Dan Hegarty.

Originally featured on Karmacoda’s 2022 album Lessons In Time, the track explores themes of reflection, regret, and personal growth. The group — made up of Jessica Ford, Brett Crockett, and Eric Matsuno — is known for blending electronica, trip-hop, R&B, and dream-pop textures, creating a sound that has earned airplay on NPR Music and recognition from publications such as CLASH Magazine, Wonderland, and Dancing Astronaut.

Black Motion’s remix transforms the song into a deep, hypnotic Afro House anthem while preserving the emotional core of the original. Critics have praised the track for its layered percussion, steady kinetic rhythm, and atmospheric melodies that build into a powerful dance-floor experience.

Music In Africa noted that the remix keeps the feeling of the original intact while reshaping it with a driving Afro House groove, while YourEDM described the production as a dynamic anthem elevated by the duo’s signature percussion work.

Formed in 2010, Black Motion — now consisting of founder Thabo “Smol” Mabogwane and Kabelo “Problem Child Ten83” Koma — have built a global reputation for their drum-heavy, spiritually inspired sound. With releases on Defected Records, multiple South African Music Awards, and a widely praised NPR Tiny Desk performance, the duo remains one of the most influential forces in modern Afro House.

Their approach to the remix reflects that philosophy.

“The ‘Time’ remix was born from a conversation with the ancestors,” Black Motion said in a statement.
“Time is not just counted, it is felt in the drum and carried in the spirit. We approached it as a ritual in sound, where rhythm becomes memory and melody becomes prayer.”

The new version of “Time” blends soulful vocals with layered percussion, hypnotic arpeggios, and rich textures, making it a standout release for fans of artists like Black Coffee, Caiiro, Culoe De Song, and Sun-El Musician.

With the remix already gaining traction across the global house scene, the collaboration highlights how Afro House continues to thrive while staying rooted in tradition, rhythm, and storytelling.
