Rudy Gobert explained his trade from the Jazz to the Timberwolves by saying that Utah felt the win-now window has closed for them and because of that they moved one of the team’s cornerstones.
Jazz CEO Danny Ainge and GM Justin Zanik agreed with the French center’s assessment of the situation. “We fell short, so we need to recalibrate and try to go and open up the next window and hopefully it’s a long one. We’ve got work to do to start that,” Zanik said per ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
Utah is reportedly committed to build around Donovan Mitchell who has four years left on his current contract. However, some people in the league think that he will be made available at some point in the future.
