Date: Friday, September 8,2023

The University of Arizona Students from Africa are benefitting from a new student club created to help them transition to life here? in the United States?

The African Graduate Student Association (AGSA) is set up to help students from Africa feel a sense of belonging at the UA.

Leaving behind your home country, family, and familiar customs is no small feat. Adjusting to life at the University of Arizona requires navigating new surroundings and forging connections.

Recognizing this challenge, Chukwuonye Gift, President of AGSA from Nigeria, founded this association to unite students from Africa, creating a supportive community that fosters a sense of home.

The association holds monthly gatherings, providing students with the opportunity to share their unique experiences, indulge in the richness of African cuisine, and exchange crucial information.

Through this initiative, Chukwuonye Gift strives to ensure that students from Africa feel connected, supported, and at home throughout their academic journey at the University of Arizona.

“The idea behind AGSA is to create a safe haven for those who have left Africa to pursue their studies. We aim to build a tight-knit community that helps each other adapt to life in the United States while staying connected to our African roots.” said Gift Chukwuonye, president of AGSA.

where students not only find a sense of home away from home but also a platform to network, learn from one another, and celebrate the rich diversity of African cultures.

‘’AGSA’s monthly gatherings have become a cherished tradition.’’

The African Graduate Student Association continues to grow, proving that unity and a shared sense of identity can make the transition to university life in a foreign country a lot smoother.
