On Monday, WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner, who has been detained in Russia for more than four months on drug charges, made a direct appeal to US President Joe Biden for her freedom in a letter passed through her representatives, via OutKick:
“I’m terrified I might be here forever,” she wrote in an excerpt, per ESPN. “I realize you are dealing with so much, but please don’t forget about me and the other detainees … Please do all you can to bring us home.”
A Minnesota native and former NBA player Royce White took to Twitter to react to the issue:
“Remember President Donald Trump threatened a trade war with Sweden when ASAP Rocky was arrested. Sleepy Joe has very few cards to play in Brittany Griner negotiations. Maybe before we pressed the NATO issue, we should’ve warned all American athletes don’t go. Terrible!”
