The MAGA civil war has reached new lows as far-right activist Laura Loomer launched a racist tirade on X (formerly Twitter), targeting Indian immigrants and tech workers. Loomer’s remarks, including derogatory slurs and conspiracy theories about H-1B visa holders, have drawn sharp criticism from Indian-American Republicans and amplified tensions within the MAGA movement.
Loomer’s Claims Against Musk and H-1B Visas
On Thursday, Loomer claimed her blue verification badge was revoked on X after she criticized Elon Musk’s alleged support for the H-1B visa program.
“[Musk] has removed my blue check mark on X because I dared to question his support for H1B visas, the replacement of American tech workers by Indian immigrants, and I questioned his relationship with China,” Loomer posted.
She further accused Musk of hypocrisy, calling out his self-proclaimed “free speech absolutism” while alleging that her account was temporarily locked for sharing private information.
The MAGA Divide Over Immigration
This isn’t the first time Loomer has made inflammatory comments. A self-proclaimed “proud Islamophobe” and “pro-white nationalist,” she has used her platform to stoke xenophobic rhetoric. However, her latest tirade comes amid growing friction between Trump’s America First loyalists and tech moguls like Musk and his ally Vivek Ramaswamy.
Ramaswamy, who is Indian-American, recently argued for the importance of immigrant tech workers, suggesting that “American culture venerated mediocrity over excellence.” His comments sparked outrage within MAGA circles, where figures like Loomer see foreign tech workers as a threat to American jobs.
Republican Indian-Americans, many of whom supported Trump in past elections, were quick to condemn Loomer’s comments, calling them racist and unrepresentative of the movement. Nikki Haley, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. and daughter of Indian immigrants, joined the fray, tweeting:
“There is nothing wrong with American workers or American culture. We should be investing in and prioritizing Americans, not foreign workers.”
The Fallout
The backlash has reignited debates over the role of immigration in MAGA’s vision for America. Tech executives like Musk and Ramaswamy argue that H-1B visas are essential for filling specialized jobs, while America First purists accuse them of undermining American workers.
Meanwhile, Matt Gaetz offered a thinly veiled critique of Musk’s influence:
“We welcomed the tech bros when they came running our way to avoid the 3rd-grade teacher picking their kid’s gender and the obvious Biden/Harris economic decline. We did not ask them to engineer an immigration policy.”
MAGA’s Big Tech Rift Widens
The MAGA-tech alliance, once united against the perceived excesses of the Democratic Party, is unraveling as issues like immigration and free speech expose ideological divides. Loomer’s tirade — and her subsequent loss of monetization privileges on X — has become a flashpoint, symbolizing the growing rift between MAGA hardliners and Silicon Valley elites.
For many observers, this latest controversy underscores the challenges of maintaining unity in a movement built on grievance politics. Whether this civil war will weaken MAGA’s influence or simply lead to new alliances remains to be seen.
As for Loomer, her increasingly incendiary rhetoric continues to alienate potential allies while reinforcing her reputation as one of MAGA’s most polarizing figures.
