Arizona’s Gun Laws Receive Failing Grade, Ranked 41st

Arizona’s gun safety laws rank among the weakest in the United States, according to the Giffords Law Center’s annual Gun Law Scorecard. The state received a failing grade (F) and was ranked 41st out of 50 states in the nation for its gun law strength.

Lindsay Nichols, policy director at Giffords Law Center, explained that Arizona’s poor performance is due to a lack of basic regulations governing gun sales and storage. “We’ve collected this data for over 10 years now,” said Nichols. “States that make efforts to improve community safety often score higher, but Arizona has not taken those steps.”

Arizona’s high rate of gun-related deaths underscores the issue. Nichols noted that over 18 people per 100,000 are killed by firearms each year in the state. “When we grade the states, those who get an F often have a very high gun death rate,” she added, emphasizing that this trend consistently appears in their findings.

Nichols advocates for stronger gun safety laws, arguing that they can significantly reduce gun violence and save lives. “It’s really important for our legislators and policymakers to stand up and take action to address this issue,” she urged.

The report serves as a call to action for Arizona lawmakers to strengthen gun regulations and prioritize community safety.
