BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — How far is “Duh-LONG-uh Range?”

For UAB kicker Jonah Delange, the answer keeps getting longer.

The UAB Blazers’ standout placekicker is putting together one of the most impressive kicking seasons in college football, combining remarkable accuracy with record-breaking distance.

Through seven games of the 2026 season, Delange (pronounced Duh-LONG-uh) has converted 17 of 19 field-goal attempts (89.5%) and all 14 of his extra-point attempts, establishing himself as one of the nation’s most productive specialists.

A semifinalist for the 2024 Lou Groza Award, Delange ranks second nationally in field goals made per game and leads the American Conference in both field goals per game and field-goal percentage.

His latest accomplishments include a school-record 57-yard field goal against Memphis and a perfect three-field-goal performance in UAB’s dramatic 30-17 overtime victory over East Carolina on October 15.

Delange Among the Nation’s Most Productive Kickers

Delange has been one of college football’s most consistent scoring threats this season.

His 2.43 field goals per game rank second nationally, trailing only Clemson kicker Nolan Hauser, who averages 2.50.

Within the American Conference, Delange leads the league with 17 made field goals and an 89.5% conversion rate.

He has scored 65 points through seven games, ranking 14th nationally and third in the conference.

His scoring average of 9.3 points per game places him 21st nationally and fourth in the American.

What makes his production particularly impressive is the distance of his attempts.

Of Delange’s 19 field-goal attempts this season, 12 have come from 40 yards or longer. He has converted 10 of those attempts, demonstrating his ability to produce points from difficult distances.

A 57-Yard Kick Rewrites UAB History

Delange delivered one of the defining moments of his career on October 10 against Memphis.

After connecting on a 49-yard field goal, he stepped onto the field and drilled a 57-yard attempt, establishing a new UAB school record.

The kick surpassed the previous program record of 54 yards, set by Ty Long against Ohio State in 2012.

It also extended Delange’s personal career long by five yards.

The achievement highlighted the remarkable distance he has developed throughout his college career.

For UAB, the kick established a new benchmark in the program’s record book.

Perfect Night Helps UAB Defeat East Carolina

Just five days after setting the school record, Delange delivered another standout performance against East Carolina.

In UAB’s October 15 matchup, the Blazers found themselves trailing 14-6 late in the third quarter.

Delange connected on a 50-yard field goal, cutting the deficit to five points and keeping UAB within striking distance.

The kick marked his second successful field goal from at least 50 yards this season and the fourth of his career.

He also connected from 41 and 26 yards, finishing the contest a perfect 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts.

His nine points proved valuable as UAB mounted a late comeback.

The Blazers scored a touchdown and converted a two-point attempt in the final minute of regulation to force overtime.

UAB ultimately secured a 30-17 overtime victory, improving to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in American Conference play.

Over his last two games, Delange has made five of six field-goal attempts, connecting from 49, 57, 41, 26 and 50 yards.

Those five successful kicks traveled a combined 223 yards, equivalent to 669 standard 12-inch rulers placed end to end.

Climbing the UAB Record Books

Delange’s success extends well beyond the current season.

With 48 career field goals made on 57 attempts, he owns an 84.2% career conversion rate.

His three successful field goals against East Carolina moved him past Matt Quinn and Nick Vogel, who each finished with 47, into fourth place on UAB’s all-time field-goals-made list.

Delange needs just two additional field goals to tie Swayze Waters for third place and nine to match Nick Hayes for second.

He also holds UAB’s career record for field-goal percentage and has converted all 74 of his career extra-point attempts.

His 218 career kicking points place him eighth on the school’s all-time scoring list and sixth in career points scored by kicking.

Delange’s 15-point performance against Samford on October 3 tied for the second-most kicking points in a single game in program history.

He finished just one point shy of Swayze Waters’ school record of 16, established against Alcorn State in 2007.

His four-field-goal performances against ULM and Samford also tied for the third-most field goals made in a single game in school history.

Closing In on UAB’s Single-Season Field Goal Record

With 17 successful field goals through seven games, Delange has already tied for sixth place on UAB’s single-season list.

He is approaching several important milestones.

Two additional field goals would move him into a tie for third with 19.

Four more would match his own 2024 total of 21.

Five additional makes would tie Swayze Waters’ school record of 22, established in 2007.

Delange’s current 89.5% field-goal percentage would also rank second in UAB single-season history if maintained through the end of the year.

The only higher single-season percentage belongs to Rhett Gallego, who converted all 14 of his attempts in 2001.

Breaking Down Duh-LONG-uh Range

Delange has built his reputation on his ability to convert field goals from nearly anywhere within scoring range.

His career statistics demonstrate both distance and consistency.

The numbers illustrate why UAB has embraced the nickname “Duh-LONG-uh Range.”

A Lou Groza Award Candidate Making His Case

Delange’s 2026 performance strengthens his credentials as one of the nation’s leading placekickers.

The Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award annually recognizes the top kicker in college football, with candidates evaluated on accuracy, distance, consistency, and overall performance.

Having already reached the semifinalist stage in 2024, Delange brings previous national recognition into another highly productive season.

His combination of an 89.5% conversion rate, 17 made field goals, and a school-record 57-yard kick gives him an impressive statistical résumé.

With several games remaining on UAB’s schedule, he has an opportunity to challenge additional school records while continuing to build his national profile.

What’s Next for Jonah Delange?

As UAB continues its 2026 campaign, Delange remains one of the Blazers’ most reliable scoring weapons.

His ability to convert field goals from beyond 50 yards gives the offense an additional scoring option when drives stall outside the red zone.

More importantly, his consistency has made him a valuable contributor in close games.

With the school’s single-season field-goal record within reach and additional national recognition possible, Delange has an opportunity to further establish his place among UAB’s all-time great kickers.

For opposing defenses, the challenge is increasingly clear: keeping UAB out of field-goal range is becoming more difficult.

Because when Jonah Delange steps onto the field, Duh-LONG-uh Range keeps getting longer.
