Authorities are investigating a deadly early-morning shooting near the Arizona State University Tempe campus that left one man dead and two others injured.
Around 4 a.m. on February 20, officers with the Tempe Police Department responded to reports of gunfire just east of the Arizona State University Tempe campus, initially reported near the Lemon Grove Apartment complex. The address associated with the incident was later updated to the area of S Dorsey Lane and E Lemon Street.
When officers arrived, they located three adult men suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel transported all three victims to a nearby hospital. Police later confirmed that one of the men, who sustained life-threatening injuries, died from his wounds. The other two victims were reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators were seen canvassing the area for evidence throughout the day. Detectives were observed entering and exiting a nearby trailer, and a black Audi sedan parked on the west side lot appeared to be part of the active investigation. Officials have not yet disclosed what role, if any, the vehicle or trailer may have played in the incident.
Police confirmed that everyone believed to be involved has been taken into custody and that no suspects remain outstanding. However, authorities have not released the number of individuals detained or the identities of those involved.
Officials also stated that the shooting does not appear to be connected to Arizona State University or its student population.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine what led up to the violence. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Tempe Police Department.
