Phoenix, Ariz. — A serious crash involving a pedestrian shut down traffic Monday evening near 47th Avenue and McDowell Road, according to police.
The incident was first reported around 6:22 p.m. when a 911 caller alerted authorities to a possible accident involving a person struck by a vehicle. Officers quickly responded to the scene and confirmed a male pedestrian had been hit.
By 6:45 p.m., police requested additional units to assist with a hard closure of the roadway as the man was reported unresponsive. Westbound lanes were shut down while investigators worked to secure the area.
At approximately 7:17 p.m., officials confirmed the victim had been struck and pushed into a police Chevrolet Tahoe during the collision. Officers began gathering eyewitness reports as detectives worked to reconstruct the events leading up to the crash.
No additional details about the pedestrian’s condition or potential contributing factors have been released. The investigation is ongoing.
