Police Identify Victims and Suspects in Deadly South Phoenix Home Invasion

PHOENIX — Authorities have released the names of those killed during a violent home invasion Tuesday night in south Phoenix that left three men dead and two others hospitalized.

The Incident

The deadly shooting unfolded around 9 p.m. on September 23 at a home near 24th Street and Southern Avenue. Police say two men entered the residence, one of them armed. A resident confronted the intruders, shooting and killing them after a chaotic exchange of gunfire.

During the confrontation, multiple people were injured, and a third man was later found dead in a nearby alley. Detectives believe he had been inside the home and may have been attempting to flee when he was shot.

Identities Released

Phoenix Police identified the two suspects killed inside the home as David Rashad, 40, and Davontae Fletcher, 20. The third man killed was named as Steven Brooks, 23, who police confirmed was also a victim of the shooting.

Officials have not disclosed whether Brooks had any connection to the suspects or residents inside the home.

Injured Victims

Two additional men were injured in the violence. One was discovered inside a vehicle involved in a crash near the crime scene, while the other was found outside a nearby Burger King on Lynne Lane. Both were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.

Ongoing Investigation

Investigators say the exact relationship between Rashad, Fletcher, and Brooks remains unclear. Police have not confirmed if Brooks was a resident of the home, a visitor, or otherwise involved.

Video from the scene showed detectives examining a crash between a white SUV and a white sedan on 24th Street. A man detained for questioning was later released and is not considered a suspect.
