A night meant for celebration at Lincoln University, one of the nation’s oldest Historically Black Colleges and Universities, turned into chaos and heartbreak on October 25. What began as a joyful homecoming gathering ended in tragedy when gunfire erupted in the parking lot of the university’s International Cultural Center.
Authorities confirmed that one person was killed and six others injured in the shooting, which took place just before 9:30 p.m. Students, alumni, and friends were celebrating after a day of football and campus pride when the violence broke out, sending people running for safety.
“It was a chaotic scene, and people were running everywhere,” said Chester County District Attorney Chris de Barrena-Sarobe during a press conference at around 1 a.m. “A happy scene was interrupted by violence.”
The university, located about 30 miles southeast of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, immediately went into lockdown as law enforcement and campus security rushed to the scene. Police detained one armed suspect and are now investigating whether others may have been involved. No additional details about the suspect have been released.
For many Lincoln students and alumni, homecoming is more than just a football game; it’s a cultural reunion steeped in legacy and community pride. That sense of unity was shattered by the sound of gunfire on what should’ve been a night of celebration and nostalgia.
As the investigation continues, the campus community is left to process grief, fear, and frustration — yet again facing the painful reality that violence has no boundaries, not even sacred spaces like HBCUs.
Habari Entertainment will continue to follow this developing story as more details emerge.
