Just 10 days ago, the Oscars aired, and many awards were handed out. But what stood out to viewers? From sci-fi horror to a cute animation about a cat, here’s what the world was watching the week of March 3rd.
Top 10 Movies:
1. The Substance (MUBI)
This movie has received a lot of attention this award season: The Substance, starring Demi Moore. While Moore didn’t win an Oscar for her performance, this sci-fi horror film will surely etch itself into the back of your mind and sit there for a while.
2. Heretic (MAX)
This A24 film has finally hit streaming services on Max, and if you like movies that challenge your ideals and beliefs, this movie is right up your alley. With a stellar performance from Hugh Grant, Heretic will be considered an A24 classic by many.
3. Flow (MAX)
This foreign film starring a stray cat has stolen the hearts of many and even the hearts of the Oscar voters who selected this movie as the best-animated film of 2024. Flow is the definition of a short and sweet film that will make you feel all warm and fuzzy.
4. Conclave (Peacock)
One of the many Oscar best picture nominees, Conclave, has been on this list several times and is a real favorite among audiences who love a good political thriller.
5. A Real Pain (HULU)
The movie star, “best-supporting actor” winner Kieran Culkin (yes, brother of Macaulay Culkin) has slowly gained traction over the past few weeks, winning over audiences with a story that feels very human.
6. The French Connection (Prime Video + History Channel Vault)
This 1971 action/crime classic starring the late Gene Hackman jumps its way into the JustWatch Top 10.
7. Nosferatu (Peacock)
This Oscar-nominated film that has also recently hit streaming services is a must-watch for those who love the classics but also love something oddly beautiful yet so gross. Nosferatu also includes incredible costume design and standout performances from Lily-Rose Depp, Bill Skarsgård, and Nicholas Hoult.
8. September 5 (Fubo, MGM+, Paramount+)
This overlooked 2024 film follows a sports broadcasting team during the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics who are forced to adapt from sports broadcasting to live broadcasting of a chilling event.
9. Nickel Boys (Fubo, MGM+)
Currently sitting at 91% on Metacritic, Nickel Boys is a historical drama based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel written by Colson Whitehead that uses a unique camera style to tell a captivating and heartfelt story.
10. Crimson Tide (Prime Video)
The second Gene Hackman classic to make an appearance on this list came out in 1995 and follows a young First Officer onboard a U.S. nuclear missile sub who tries to prevent his trigger-happy captain from launching the ship’s missiles.
Top 10 TV Shows:
1. Paradise (HULU)
Paradise appears high on the top 10 again. The last episode aired on March 4th, and the show is confirmed to be getting a second season that will air at some point during 2026. If you haven’t watched Paradise, now is a perfect time to catch up.
2. Severance (AppleTV+)
The show that has taken the world by storm, Severance, makes yet another appearance on the list and shows no signs of slowing down as people around the world can’t stop raving about it.
3. The White Lotus (MAX)
One of Max’s most popular shows makes an appearance in the top 10 for the first time. This dark comedy created by Mike White continues to impress long-time fans of the show while reaching new audiences.
4. Daredevil: Born Again (Disney+)
Just a few years ago, the hit Netflix show, Daredevil, was lost in Limbo with Disney trying to bring all MARVEL content to its streaming platform. However, fans had different plans when they started a petition called “Save Daredevil.” Executives at Disney heard this movement, and Disney decided to continue most of the stories that Netflix had started. Finally, on March 4th, fans got their wish, and Disney aired the first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again and will continue to air it weekly until the first season concludes. If you watched the Netflix classic, you are going to love this continuation of the “man without fear.”
5. Reacher (Prime Video, Freevee)
Coming into its sixth episode of the third season, Reacher continues to satisfy viewers and keep them coming back for more.
6. Yellowjackets (Fubo, Paramount+)
Halfway through its third season, Yellowjackets also returns to the top 10 with twists and turns that viewers everywhere will love.
7. The Pitt (MAX)
With its first season concluding soon, The Pitt seems to have found its home on Max, with a second season being confirmed for the future. While it’s unclear if this season will come next year, if you are interested in medical dramas, you will have a lot of time to catch up.
8. Running Point (Netflix)
This newly released Netflix basketball comedy starring Kate Hudson has left audiences laughing from beginning to end. The season consists of 10 episodes, and if you start now, you won’t miss out on all the buzz!
9. Zero Day (Netflix)
Starring the legendary actor Robert De Niro, Zero Day is a political drama/thriller airing on Netflix that follows the deepest conspiracies and the damage they can do during a crisis.
10. 1923: A Yellowstone Origin Story (Paramount+)
Rounding out the bottom of the list is the Paramount+ series 1923: A Yellowstone Origin Story. This show stars the legendary Harrison Ford and is a prequel to the hit show Yellowstone. The second season started on February 23 and will run until April 13th.
