  • HBO Max outpaced Netflix in average movie popularity, benefitting from early access to high-profile theatrical releases.

  • Disney+ saw renewed success with Disney/Fox-owned genre films directed by Danny Boyle while also gaining traction through new Marvel entries.

  • Apple TV+ reinforced its quality-over-quantity strategy, maintaining high average popularity with several breakout titles.

Amazon Prime Video led in total movie popularity this past quarter, driven by a deep catalog and strong user engagement. They had good success with their exclusive streaming release of The Accountant 2 (2025) reached #1 in the U.S. streaming charts and spent 26 days in the Top 10. They also had success with their straight-to-streaming action comedy, Deep Cover (2025), which hit #1, staying in the Top 10 for two weeks. Prime Video also saw big upticks in popularity after Universal/Focus Features Nosferatu (2024) and Conclave (2024) performed strongly. Conclave alone spent 128 days in the Top 10 and held the #1 spot for several weeks.

Netflix follows behind Hulu in total and average movie popularity, but saw the most success with its exclusive titles. The Old Guard 2 reached #1 and spent 7 days in the Top 10, Heart Eyes peaked at #2 with 5 days, and Havoc starring Tom Hardy held #2 and remained in the Top 100 for 41 days.

Disney+ saw a boost in popularity thanks to both exclusive new releases and renewed interest in older titles. Captain America: Brave New World climbed to #2, remaining in the Top 10 for 10 days. Meanwhile, legacy films also surged in popularity. 28 Weeks Later (2007) rose to #2 and stayed in the Top 10 for 27 days. Another Danny Boyle film, Sunshine (2007), reached #4 in the U.S. streaming charts. This resurgence appears to be driven by growing excitement around the recent theatrical release of 28 Years Later.

Apple TV Plus is continuing to grow their library and showed strong average popularity, reinforcing its quality-over-quantity strategy. Hits included Fountain of Youth (Peaking at #2 in the US Streaming Charts and 9 days in the top 10s), Echo Valley (#2, 4 days in the Top 10), and The Gorge (#1, 11 days in the Top 10).

Hulu had a very popular quarter for their catalog, ranking second in both total and average popularity, behind only Prime Video. Like Disney, Hulu benefitted from renewed interest in titles like 28 Weeks Later and Independence Day. It also excelled with newer films—Anora (2024) spent 118 days in the Top 10 and hit #1, while Presence (2024) peaked at #2 with 6 days, and Predator: Killer of Killers (2025) reached #2, spending 7 days in the Top 10.

HBO Max also had a standout quarter, ranking #4 in total popularity and outperforming Netflix in average popularity, where it placed #3. The platform benefitted from early access to several major titles, including Mickey 17 (which reached #1 and spent 59 days in the Top 10), A Minecraft Movie (peaked at #3 with 34 days in the Top 10), and Sinners, which most recently reached #1 and maintained a presence in the Top 10 for 82 days.

Methodology:

Streaming video on demand (SVOD) availability is tracked by JustWatch on millions of titles. This specific analysis looks at SVOD availability in the U.S. market for Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+, Hulu, Prime Video, and HBO Max between April 1, 2025 and June 30, 2025.

The popularity analysis is based on the streaming behavior of over 20 million U.S. users on JustWatch between April 1 and June 30, 2025. During this period, we captured more than 35 million engagement signals, including click-throughs on streaming offers, watchlist additions, title page views, trailer plays, and ‘watched’ marks. Each interaction is weighted by its level of streaming intent – lower for passive signals like page and trailer views, and higher for active signals such as click-throughs and completed viewings. These weighted actions are then combined to generate a comprehensive popularity score for each title.

To evaluate both total catalog popularity and average title popularity, we analyzed user interactions for all films and TV shows that ranked within the Top 1000 most popular titles during the quarter. This approach allowed us to capture both the breadth and impact of each streaming provider’s catalog.

The JustWatch Streaming Charts are driven by real-time user activity, updated daily across 140 countries and more than 4,500 streaming services. The U.S. streaming data featured in this report reflects the behavior of over 20 million monthly users, with rankings calculated on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
