The talks between the Jazz and the Knicks for the acquisition of Donovan Mitchell were going on for nearly a couple of months. Eventually the 25-year-old shooting guard was traded to the Cavaliers in an unexpected turn of events.

According to an NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, New York offered a big package for the Jazz star in July that included RJ Barrett, Obi Toppin, Mitchell Robinson and three unprotected first-round picks but Utah turned it down.

Via the trade with Cleveland, Utah received Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji, Collin Sexton, three unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027 and 2029) and two pick swaps (2026 and 2028).
