Following the confirmation of Maria Bakalova’s casting, Deadline brings word that Superstore alum Nico Santos is officially making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Further details about his role are still being kept under wraps. Santos and Bakalova will be joining previously announced MCU newcomers Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Daniela Melchior.
The Filipino-American actor gained recognition for his role in the blockbuster romantic comedy film Crazy Rich Asians. He was also a series regular on the NBC comedy Superstore, which ended its 6-season run last year.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is once again written and directed by James Gunn. It features the return of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Sean Gunn, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel as they reprise their respective roles as Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Kraglin, Nebula, Mantis, Rocket, and Groot.
The space-traveling team was last seen in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, where they were joined by Chris Hemsworth’s Thor during the final moments of the film. Because of this, some of the Guardians of the Galaxy stars, including Pratt, Bautista, and Gillan, are set to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder.
The long-delayed film is currently scheduled to debut on May 5, 2023.
