Camrus Johnson’s “SHE DREAMS AT SUNRISE” Starring Candice Patton and Azie Tesfai Wins Best Animated Short Film At Chicago International Children’s Film Festival

Camrus Johnson is a true multi-hyphenate best known for his starring role as “Luke Fox” aka “Batwing” in the CW/HBOMax series BATWOMAN, which just got a season 3 order… He also just got an episode to direct. Other TV credits included recurring roles on the David Gordon Green Hulu series THERE’S JOHNNY, Netflix’ LUKE CAGE, and the FXX short form series OH JEROME opposite Mamoudou Athie.

On the feature side of things he was last seen in Warner Bros. THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR, opposite Yara Shaidi and Charles Melton. Previous feature credits include Alex Wolff’s THE CAT AND THE MOON, and Daniel Schechter’s AFTER CLASS opposite Justin Long and Kate Berlant.

On the writer/director/producer front he has an animated series in development at ABCS/Disney + 20th Animation titled, BLOO, he will write the pilot & produce alongside Underground, and Dave Bernad & Ruben Fleischer at The District. Yara Shahidi is attached to star and produce as well.

His animated short, GRAB MY HAND: A LETTER TO MY DAD, which he made on a $0 budget, won awards across the globe and was qualified for last year’s Oscars.

His second animated short, SHE DREAMS AT SUNRISE, recently won its first award for animated short film at the 38 annual Chicago International Children’s Film Festival. The film follows an elderly woman who escapes her mundane reality through her dreams while her great-nephew helps reconnect her to what she’s really missing. Candice Patton and Azie Tesfai also star in Camrus Johnson’s animated short film.

Camrus’ first comic for DC just dropped. He wrote a Batwing (character he plays on show) story that’s included in BATMAN: URBAN LEGENDS #4. His second one, DC REPRESENT #14 was released on June 14th – and is the last issue of that run.
